Introduction of measures to improve pedestrian access and road safety on High Street and Meriden Road, Hampton-in-Arden.

Hampton-in-Arden Village Centre

In partnership with Hampton-in-Arden Parish Council, funding has recently been secured to bring forward measures to aid pedestrian safety within the village. Match funding from the HS2 Road Safety Fund will enable the first phase of a scheme to improve pedestrian crossing facilities and road safety in the village to be delivered in Summer/Autumn 2021. Phase one of the scheme will see new informal humped pedestrian crossings provided, new sections of footway provided and a banned turning manourve by the memorial. This will be accompanied by new signage and village gateways on Solihull Road and Meriden Road, all of which are intended to aid pedestrian safety and manage traffic within the village. Work is currently underway on the detailed design of the new features, further information on which can be found below in the additional materials section.It is expected that we will be in a position to see these improvements installed later in 2021. Once installed we will in partnership with the Parish Council review the effect these new measure have on traffic behavior to determine if and where further measures are needed to reduce traffic speeds and improve pedestrian safety.Bringing any such measures forward would be subject to further successful funding bid being made.

A new Collision Avoidance System has been installed at this rural crossroads to highlight the presence of the junction to oncoming traffic.

Hodgetts Lane, Balsall Common

Hodgetts Lane at its junction with Waste Lane, Balsall Common is a rural cross road site that had been identified by the Council as a location that would benefit from enhancements to aid its operation and safety. As part of a package of improvements undertaken over the last 12 months, funding was secured late in 2020 to fund the installation of an an intelligent solar/wind powered vehicle actuated sign on the Hodgetts Lane (southbound approach) which is linked to similar signs on the main road.This new suite of vehicle actuated signs around the junction are the final element of a number of improvements made at the junction which included:(1). Renewal of existing carriageway markings.(2). Installation of intelligent cats eyes on the two Hodgetts Lane approaches.(3). Amendments to existing signage to improve visibility.(4).
